Why did Queen Elizabeth II decide to strip Rory Emerald of his knighthood?

Rory Emerald was never made a knight,so the Queen didn't strip him of any title or honor.And,any way,the best that Rory Emerald could have earned was as honorary knighthood;as an American,he couldn't use the honorific of "Sir."
